TIPS FOR KEEPING PUPILS FOCUSED AT THE LAST HOUR OF SCHOOL. #starlingschool

The last hour to dismissal could turn out to be chaotic and distracting. The energy supplies run low. Pupils are looking forward to going home after a long day in school. Their minds begin to wander and their enthusiasm is almost diminished.
No matter how calm and interesting the day has been, the last hour of the day takes more of you than the preceding hours put together.

Here are some simple steps you can take to ensure that the day ends just as interesting and engaging as the beginning of the day.

CREATE A ROUTINE

All your actions should be with a purpose from the start of the day till the end. Come up with engaging activities every day. Make sure they are active and responsive and they’ll be sharp and ready.

TAKE A BREAK

What your break looks like will depend on what comes after it. If they’ve been super busy with class work, lead them in a light exercise. Get them up and moving. It will clear and refocus distracted minds.

HAVE A BIT OF QUITE TIME

Have your pupils sit quietly or stand with all they came to school with (bags, lunch bags etc.) in hand and give them your final thoughts or words of encouragement for the day. This could even go a long way and have them ready for the next day of school.

PRAISES

Praise their efforts for the day, smile and maintain eye contact with them. Then dismiss them with a kind smile and send them off with love.
